The Paso Fino Breed
Puerto Rican Paso Fino Horses originate from the Dominican Republic, Puerto Rico, Cuba, Colombia and Venezuela. Paso Finos are born with a very unique gait, specific only to their breed. An evenly-spaced, four-beat, lateral gait with each foot contacting the ground independently in a regular sequence. Doing so at precise intervals, while creating a rapid, unbroken rhythm, allows the rider to seem motionless with little up and down movement.
Paso Finos are often seen competing in Western classes such as trails, barrels, reining, versatility, and cow penning, however they also make great trail riders and pets. This breed, noted for its agility, intelligence and hardiness, seems to genuinely enjoy human companionship and always strive to please. They are spirited and responsive, yet sensible and gentle at hand.
